Rob Ryan at Charleston House

Huge congratulations to Rob Ryan whose solo show of papercuts and ceramics opened in the gallery at Charleston House yesterday evening. Charleston House, on the South Downs near Lewes, was a favourite retreat of the Bloomsbury Group; a circle of writers, artists and intellectuals who were highly influential in the development of British Modernism. Much of their work blended sophisticated modern design with a respect for traditional craftsmanship; values that Rob most definitely shares. Well worth a day trip!

Tobias Till at Medcalf, Exmouth Market

We've installed a selection of Tobias Till's linocut prints in the Medcalf Bar and Restaurant, Exmouth Market. For the next few months you can view his complete 'London A-Z' series as well as individual prints of the 'Westway' and 'Red Arrows.'

Till's 'London A-Z' depicts a series of views of the capital city: one for each letter of the alphabet from the Albert Memorial to London Zoo. His latest print, 'Red Arrows,' shows a flypast by the famous Royal Airforce Aerobatic Team (an unusually familiar sight this Jubilee year), while his 'Westway' print captures the frenetic character of this key transport route into the city.

London is firmly in the spotlight this summer and this is a great opportunity to enjoy Tobias Till's impression of the city, over a drink, waiting for the Olympics crowds to disperse...!

This is the latest in a series of exhibitions at Medcalf curated by TAG Fine Arts.

Getting ready for The Bloomsbury Art Fair

Robin Duttson | Blossom Red and Gold | 2012 | Edition of 50
TAG Fine Arts will be exhibiting at The Bloomsbury Art Fair next week. The Fair, which debuted last year, aims to bring together a high quality collection of fine art in a relaxed atmosphere, while raising money for charity. Here's a brief introduction from George Crofton, the Art Director & Co-Founder:

"The 2012 Bloomsbury Art Fair promises to be another great event. We have a fantastic line up of Exhibitors with many new and exciting names including TAG Fine Arts. BAF started as a simple idea – to promote the achievements of people with disabilities, particularly disabled artists, and raise money for charity in the process. Our philanthropic aims remain the same and this year we are delighted to introduce Walking With The Wounded as one of our chosen beneficiaries. Look out for: TAG Fine Arts (obviously); Graffik Gallery, who will perform live graffiti demonstrations as part of BAF’s Arts Programme (which has been devised with the help of ArtInsight); ‘Paul’ the one-eyed, one-armed mechanical portraitist; The Horsebox Gallery, The Multiple Store and Helium Foundation."

Happy Birthday Sir Peter Blake

...We love you too

We headed to the Mall Galleries last night to celebrate Sir Peter Blake's 80th birthday with CCA Galleries. Thank you to all involved for putting on such a great evening.

The 'godfather' of British pop art, Peter Blake mixes photographs, comic strips, advertising texts and popular printed media along with his own bold patterns to create striking new works. His limited edition prints are instantly recognisable for their balance of contemporary innovation and nostalgia.

A selection of his limited edition prints is available on our website. Contact us if you'd like to arrange to view them at our gallery space.

Stanley Donwood 'Lost Angeles' and the apocalypse

"Los Angeles is fucked. Everything is fucked, everything, and really, we all know this... The apocalypse is already here, and the saddest thing is that we’re trying to fool ourselves that it isn’t happening."

Last month, Stanley Donwood was the subject of a solo show at Subliminal Projects in LA. 'Lost Angeles' depicts the host city crumbling under fire, flood and meteor strikes. It builds on a theme he first addressed in 2006 with 'London Views,' which depicted England's capital in a similar state of apocalyptic disarray.

The works themselves are powerfully composed in sombre shades of black and grey, drawn in a "quasi-Mediaeval" style that fits the apocalyptic message. 'Hollywood Limousine' is printed onto a background of silver foil; a technique that dramatically animates the composition as it catches the light.

They're available to view at our gallery, and they'll be on display at the TAG Fine Arts stand at the Bloomsbury Art Fair in July. View them online here.
