Adam Bridgland will present an ambitious new project at the Idea Store, Whitechapel, next month. The artist has created two large monochrome murals inspired by twentieth-century postcards of London, which visitors are invited to 'colour in' over the course of two July workshops. The exhibition is curated by Matthew Reeves.

A beautifully bound portfolio of ten A2 screenprints, from which the designs of the two wall paintings are taken, will be available to purchase in a limited edition of forty sets plus five artist’s proofs.

A Posy for You

Adam Bridgland has completed a beautiful pair of screenprints which TAG Fine Arts will release at Multiplied 2012 this month. He's been experimenting with floral motifs over the last year to create these fresh takes on a traditional genre. He explained his motivation to us the other week:

"The works are part of an ongoing project that emerged out of my interest in posies and their symbolism. My fascination with the subject started when I was commissioned by the Courtauld East Wing to create a new work for an exhibition in 2009. On learning that Samuel Courtauld, the founder of the Institute, made much of his fortune making Victorian mourning gowns, I became intriqued by the imagery surrounding the Victorian fascination with death and the dead. One image that continued to appear was that of the posy. This was the starting point for a number of sketches and preparatory work that has lead to these first two prints. They are somewhat more celebratory than their Victorian inspiration however, focusing on the idea of the posy as a gift, a small sentimental act; something that is emphasised by the choice of colours within the editions, and the phrases used."

Congratulations to Adam Bridgland who's installed his first UK public art commission at Futures Community College, Southend. 'You will have dignity if you come here' has been a year in the making, and it looks fantastic in situ. The huge star is colourful by day, and glows by night. Adam Bridgland at East Wing Nine (Courtauld Institute of Art)

The East Wing Nine collection at the Courtauld Institute of Art is well worth a visit, not least because Adam Bridgland is one of the exhibitors. The collection, on the theme of 'Exhibitionism,' opened January 22nd. Adam is showing two specially commissioned works - the light installation All Our Riches and a patch called Our Thames Sunset Caught in a Watercolour Wash - as well as the screen print If I was an Actor. The collection is open until 2011, giving you plenty of time to make your way there!

UCLH Arts and TAG Fine Arts are proud to present
Allotment, an exciting new group exhibition at The Street Gallery, University College Hospital.
Following on from the success of previous shows SNAP and Black Light, artist Adam Bridgland and UCLH Arts Curator Guy Noble, have collaborated with TAG Fine Arts and brought together twenty-three artists to each create a new wall based work in response to the term 'Allotment'. A full list of artists included in the exhibition is listed below.
All twenty-three practitioners are gaining widespread recognition within the art and design world and exhibit internationally. Many are part of major art collections in the UK and abroad. All the artists produce very different work and their approach to the subject has created a diverse exhibition of works. For a term that could be deemed quintessentially 'English', the exhibition has a cosmopolitan feel. Painting, printmaking, photography, drawing and collage will be showcased. The work will be for sale, with thirty percent going to the UCLH Arts fund to ensure the future development of UCLH Arts projects for the benefit of hospital patients. Participating artists include; Adam Bridgland, Sarah Bridgland, Andrew Curtis, Erica Donovan, Lloyd Durling, Robin Duttson, Lucy Gough, Matthew Green, Claas Gutsche, Mark Hampson, Adam Hayes, Fiona Hepburn, Katherine Jones, Jack Kettlewell, Kwai Lau, Gary Mcdonald, Edd Pearman, Suzy Q and The Owls, Giulia Resteghini, Rob Ryan, Bronwen Sleigh, Ceal Warnants and Katsutoshi Yuasa
