The Making of Fragile Peace

Those of you who visited us at the London Art Fair last week can't have failed to notice Chris Mitton's fantastic new sculpture, 'Fragile Peace.'

Chris hand carved a block of Italian Carrara marble into a 3:1 scale sculpture of the Colt 45 SAA revolver, commonly known as the 'Peacemaker.' It took him 6 months to finish the painstakingly detailed piece, working from a replica of the original gun. These images reveal something of his arduous process and give a wonderful insight into the artist's stone carving method, from stone block to finished sculpture.

Chris Mitton

Chris Mitton's latest work is an inspired piece of carving. The life-sized sculpture of a crisp packet and eight individual crisps is made entirely out of solid Carrara marble, but looks good enough to eat! This is part of Mitton's 'Revalue' series, where he takes the most unlikely of throwaway items and meticulously recreates them in marble monuments to the mundane.

Chris Mitton at the Zetter

We have just installed Chris Mitton's beautifully carved sculptures in the cabinets of the Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell. They are hand carved from carrara marble and include the 'Re-valued Series' which recreates life size throw away objects such as coffee cups and coke cans. It's also a great place to go for Sunday Brunch...
