Christmas Stylist | Illustrated by Rob Ryan

Today sees the release of a very special collector's Christmas edition of Stylist, which has been produced in collaboration with the wonderful Rob Ryan and his East London studio.

The issue includes 38 pages of editorial featuring Rob Ryan's stunning paper-cuts, each of which was designed, hand-cut and photographed specifically for the magazine.

The result is a feast for the eyes, and we suggest going to your local shop, cafe or train station to grab yours before they're all snapped up!

The First Cut

Claire Brewster | An Apocalypse of Butterflies (detail) | 2012

'The First Cut' opens tonight at the Manchester City Galleries! Their major group exhibition showcases the work of over 30 contemporary artists working creatively with paper.

Claire Brewster will install 'An Apocalypse of Butterflies' in the Pre-Raphaelite galleries: a lively intervention of contemporary art and natural imagery in a traditional space.

Rob Ryan is producing his largest ever single sheet paper cut as one of seven special commissions for the exhibition.

Susan Stockwell
’s period dresses, constructed out of antique maps, are beautifully crafted comments on the history of empire and aspiration.

Justine Smith
’s work uses bank notes to create images of guns and grenades in a provocative allusion to the lucrative arms trade and gun culture in modern society.

Rob Ryan at Charleston House

Huge congratulations to Rob Ryan whose solo show of papercuts and ceramics opened in the gallery at Charleston House yesterday evening. Charleston House, on the South Downs near Lewes, was a favourite retreat of the Bloomsbury Group; a circle of writers, artists and intellectuals who were highly influential in the development of British Modernism. Much of their work blended sophisticated modern design with a respect for traditional craftsmanship; values that Rob most definitely shares. Well worth a day trip!
